Super Mario 3D World is the fifteenth title in the Super Mario series of arcade games published by Nintendo. It is also the first item in this series intended for the Wii U console. The game develops solutions found in the previous installments of the series, taking as a model especially Super Mario 3D Land, released for the 3DS console in 2011.

As in the case of the above-mentioned title, we are dealing here with a light, three-dimensional platform game, which sometimes turns into a classic, side-scrolled arcade game, when we observe the action from the side. We travel through colorful locations with a linear structure, filled with obstacles and enemies to overcome and simple logic puzzles. At the beginning of each level, we choose one of the four characters, entrusting control over the rest to artificial intelligence. The available heroes are Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad, and each of them has unique abilities - Luigi can jump high, for example, and Toad runs very fast. In addition to the aforementioned difficulties, various "collectibles", such as coins and power-ups, are also waiting for us in the locations we explore. Among the latter we find an absolute novelty for the entire series, namely a bell that turns a character into a cat. Being in this form, we can move faster, attack enemies more effectively and climb into previously inaccessible areas.
Gameplay
The game presents a graphic style to which we were accustomed to the previous installments of the series, although due to the specification of the platform for which it was prepared, the setting is more detailed and abounds in more effects. Speaking of the technical side, it is also worth mentioning that Super Mario 3D World uses the possibilities offered by the touch screen of the Wii U console controller - using it, we can, for example, reveal blocks invisible to the naked eye that hide more coins, or even weaken opponents. The game also offers support for the Off-TV Play service, allowing you to play without the TV, using only the above-mentioned screen on the controller. As mentioned, the game itself takes care of the other characters in the team, but nothing prevents you from inviting up to three friends to play and traversing the levels together, helping each other. It is also possible to try your hand at a mode where competition between players is what counts.
